Degree Show

This is my degree show I have two boards, and I'm very proud of how they have turned out. i love how bright my work looks on the white boards and I'm very pleased with the final outcome of all the work that I have done, as you can see there is a stool in my collection this was a last minuet addition to the collection, i had created a large piece on machine knitted fabric and it was too large for a cushion, I had this stool in my home and decided that fabric could be used to re-upholster the cushion of the stool, as it is only small it doesn't over power the rest of my degree show, but it shows another product which my fabric could be used  on.

Final Weeks

We are now in the final few weeks on my course, all my work has to be up on my degree show boards on the 29th, so not long left, lots of knitting and drawing still to be done to get my project to a standard that I will be happy with, but with what I have done so far I'm very pleased.

Ideas for Degree Show Boards

We have been asked to consider how we would like our final degree show boards to look, which fabrics we will present and if we will have props or anything else.
After looking over my fabrics I have decided that I would like to create cushions being as that is what my fabrics are designed to be for, but as we have up to 10f boards I needed to consider how I could create cushions to go on a wall and I thought by using an artist canvas with wadding and cover it in my fabric it would look like a cushion and it will sit nicely against the wall. I tried it and it worked successfully, I also have my monarch fabrics which I will drape as well as my blankets which I will also drape.

rugs or blankets?

These are some of the fabrics that I've created were produced on the Shima knitting machine, at first they were designed to be rugs however after they had been washed several times and are not felting any more, to get to a rug like consistency, I decided that they should be throws because of their soft texture and light weight, they could be used as a bed throw or blanket, the yarns wool yarns make this fabric soft, warm and cosy which is ideal for this type of product. The graphic pattern that I designed are readable on both sides so it wouldn't have to be backed.

Design Seminar

Today I have had my last design seminar, we had to do a power point presentation, showing the direction of the project, our inspiration, the final uses of the fabrics that we are creating and any other information we wish to include. After the presentation we show our work and our sketchbooks, inspiration file and technical file. We discuss with our tutors and fellow pupils any improvements could be done and if we are heading in the right direction. My presentation went very well and my tutors liked the work that I had produced and they also agreed with decision about the Shima knitting that the fabric suits being a throw rather than a rug, and that I should just continue with everything that I have been doing.

Pressing Leaves

I have been out in my garden and the surrounding areas collecting leafs to press in a new sketchbook which I'm creating, that is purely for leafs, I'm going to use them as inspiration for my drawings, once dryed out I used spray glue to attach them in the sketchbook.
